Description : Made during the time of Napoleon III or the French 2nd Empire. Oval bezel (top) with a border of small pearls surrounding a fantastic synthetic purple sapphire that glows deeply as the light catches it and with deep, dark tones as it falls into shadow. Each pearl and central gem is colette set in gold, so that we have concentric rings of alternating colors. The outer mounts of the pearls are gently scalloped, giving a floral form to the ring. Each wide shoulder is set with a trio of pearls matching those of the bezel. A flat gold hoop widens towards the shoulders where it is broad enough to accommodate the triangle of pearls just mentioned.
