Description : Shaped as a girandole beneath a crown.
Extremely delicate and fine workmanship of a beautiful quality. A gold bale (loop) suspends a crown of openwork. The fine, scrolling and curving border is finely set with tiny rose-cut diamonds. The arching bottom border set with seed pearls within a gold filigree mount. The area within consists of a lattice, each intersection set with a seed pearl or small, Old Mine Cut diamond. A round, colette-set amethyst in the center. Further small pearls highlight outer intersections of the scrolling border.
The crown upper section suspends a trio of pendant drops, typical of the Georgian girandole style, with the largest and longest in the middle and two smaller drops on either side. Each drop consists of pearls and tiny diamonds with a pear-shaped colette-set amethyst drop at the terminals. These 3 drops have total freedom of movement independent of the main body and add a lot of attention to the jewel.

Diamonds are set in silver, as was typical of jewelry of the period in order to show them off to best effect. The majority of the mount is in yellow gold.
The amethysts are of a deep purple color, open-backed and of a fine quality. Colette settings of amethysts with crimped upper edges. Workmanship is exceptionally fine. The Edwardian and Belle Epoque era is recognised for its outstanding quality of workmanship and this pendant is a great example of the fine style and quality of the period.

Marks and Metal: No marks as is to be expected of English jewelry of this period. Gold was acid tested and stays for 18k. There is a hand-engraved / scratched mark on the back of the pendant, which is most likely a personal inventory number. It appears to read 5472 L7 - IX.X

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Pearls have not been tested as natural/cultured. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
