Late Georgian antique long chain necklace / sautoir. 18k gold. Made in France during the Louis Philippe era circa 1830's.

Measurements: Approximately 53inches (134cm) long. Weighs 19.6 grams.

Description : How did they make it? This long, long gold chain necklace is so exquisitely made that it's difficult to see how fine the links are. They epitomise luxurious French quality - the sections slide like silk over one another. Fine rounded rectangular line of gold links, very flexible and supple.

The large jump loop commonly attached to these sautoirs, probably held a fob or charm of some sort. It is not used to open the necklace.

Chain is very flexible and can be wound more than once around the neck and/or many times around the arm/wrist. It's the perfect accessory to finish a smart outfit. Understated elegance.

Marks: worn French hallmark on loop near clasp ring.
