Description : Impressive, big, round earrings. The tops curve slightly over the flat gold disc backs. Border adorned with tiny pearls (not tested). The center, highest point of the arching surface with a raised roughly rectangular gold cell containing a gleaming white sapphire (that looks like a diamond). The rest of the surface is beautifully decorated with an engraved botanic design with scrolling, interweaving flowers and foliage. The engraved lines are filled in with black enamel. Combination of high carat gold and black enamel is stunning.

These earrings were sold to us by a wealthy woman who was selling some of her mother and grandmother's jewelry that she did not wear. From her somewhat vague memories, the earrings date to the first part of the 20th century, although she claimed they were well over 100 years old.
