Description: Gold mounts indicate the Neo Etruscan fashion in Italy during the 19th century. Granules of gold and twisted wires with strong Classic shapes and design. Black and white hardstone agate cameos are carved to depict mythological cherubs, one with wings and one with bow and quiver of arrows along with the fruit of the hunt.

Luigi Rosi, was a well-documented cameo carver in Rome during the 19th century. He was a pupul of Dies and largely involved in the jewelry industry.

Please see below for the rest of the description:
The earrings are highly attractive and as wearable and fabulous today as they were at the height of the Etruscan Revival craze introduced by Castellani and his sons. It is easily conceivable that this pair of earrings was sold in the Castellani store.

Marks: Both cameos are hand-engraved on the back: Luigi Rosi Roma Piazza di Spagna 86 (which was the address of the artist). Gold is not marked, but was acid tested to ensure metal purity.

Condition: The gold mounts have definite condition issues. There are dents and dings on the sides - we have shown the worst of it in the pictures. This damage does not impinge on the frontal appearance of the earrings, nor on the cameos, which are in very good shape with no damage of any sort. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
