Description : Elegant, elongated shape with strong geometric design, typical of the Retro period. During this time, the Space Race was on - with the USA and Soviets competing to send Man to Outer Space and eventually, the Moon. Simultaneously, since the 18th century, people were fascinated with Halley's Comet, that appears every 75-76 years and which inspired many brooches over the years.
This brooch consists of a stylised, swooshing shape that loops over itself and divides into a 3-part tail that flares out as it dissipates. The main body of the'comet' consists of a golden sphere and faceted, cylindrical rectangle. The strong design makes the brooch perfect for either a man or a woman and is a powerful statement about the romance of science and technology. Understated elegance, this brooch is very well made.
Marks and Metal: Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity. Unknown hallmark looks at first glance like hammer and sickle mark of Russia / Soviet Union, but upon closer inspection, is slightly different. The center contains the letter 'S'. Please see pictures.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
