Rare Meissen trivet.

19th century, German.

Children at play.

Diameter is just under 6inches.

Stands on 3 bunshaped, gilt decorated legs.

Depicts a little girl and boy, dressed in 18th century clothes, clearly very rich, at play.

The girl waves a fan, while the boy, his tricorn hat almost falling off his head as he leans back to spear a large bumblebee with his sword.

Various medals and the rich colouring show that they are aristocratic children.

Wonderful chubby faces.

Full of life and fun.

Rare to find this quality painting with such a fabulous theme.

Very likely outside painted (as so many of the best Meissen pieces are) as indicated by a single scratch accross the underglaze Meissen mark underneath.

Impressed J102.

Small, shallow chip at the back, on the side, totally hidden from view, otherwise good condition.
