Memento Mori - Memorial or Mourning earrings. The ground is textured gold. A raised center with black enamel anchor, symbolic of steadfast affection, loyalty and ongoing love. Loops connect the upper section with the drops so that the latter swing and sway as the wearer moves. A fluted cup encloses an elongated black onyx drop, carved for further interest. The long, rounded shape and swirling carved detail are extremely elegant and remind us of the flowing elegance of the Art Nouveau style.

Marks: the inside of the surmounts have marks that are not legible. Please see enlarged pictures. We acid tested the gold to ensure metal purity.

Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. Close inspection shows a tiny loss to the enamel of one anchor which may even be original to the manufacture and is mentioned for the sake of accuracy. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

Sentimental and romantic these earrings are extremely elegant, but intended to remind us of our mortality. The surmounts are in the form of a fleur de lis.
While the ear pendants are strictly Victorian in appearance, the influence of the Art Nouveau is clearly evident. The earrings are simple and sophisticated at the same time and can be worn for any purpose. Gold wires with simple c-clasps make the earrings easy to insert and comfortable to wear.
