Vintage Retro Brooch / Pair of Dress Sweater Clips. 14k yellow gold, moonstones and rubies. Made circa 1940s by Raymond Yard, New York, USA.
Measurements: Approximately 2.75 inches (7cm) long, 1.25inches (3.5cm) wide. Weighs 34.9grams. Lenght of longest moonstones approx 19mm.
Metamorphosizing multiple purpose design - brooch dismantles into a pair of dress or sweater clips and re-assembled into a single brooch. Fluid ribbons of gold in the form of a bow decorated with 4 cabochon moonstones of gorgeous pearly blue transluscence and highlighted by little clusters of claw set faceted rubies. Top quality workmanship and elegance. The design of this brooch is clearly by the same hand as the emerald, diamond and platinum brooch/clips seen page 51 in the book on Yard by Natasha Kuzmanovic and David Rockefeller. It is closely related to moonstone and ruby jewelry shown in the same book page 174 and 175 and especially similar to the moonstone and ruby pieces shown page 46 and 47, all from the 1940's in yellow gold. Moonstones were clearly a Yard favorite as they are also shown in the backpage of the book.
Marks: numerous 14k and YARD INC engraved marks.
Condition: very good with negligible wear commensurate with age.
Raymond Yard was jeweler to the ultimate celebrities such as Joan Crawford and magnates such as Rockefeller, Flagler and DuPont.
