Antique Edwardian brooch pin. Demantoid garnets, rubies, pink sapphires, diamonds and pearls set in 14k gold. Made circa 1900 - 1910.
Measurements: Length approx 7cm / 2 3/4 inches long. Weighs 17.7 grams.
Rubies: approx 6ct; 0.67ct pink sapphire; demantoid garnets 3.25ct; 10 rose cut diamonds and 29 half seed pearls.
Naturalistic, flower form brooch. Beautifully matched, bright rubies comprising the 5 gently curving petals. The center, which emerges from the plain of the petals consists of diamond stamens and a central large demantoid garnet, measuring 6.60X5.43mm. The stem is surrounded by buds and foliage. The buds are seed pearls enclosing pink sapphires, the foliage demantoid garnets. A few round sapphires and garnets of intermediary side add further interest and delicacy.
The workmanship of the brooch is excellent. Looking at the back, we see a lattice of gold with the finely set gems like stained glass windows. The gems are bright with gorgous glint and the contrast between the red and green stones is extremely striking, with the more delicate and subtle variations of the pink and pearls forming a soft contrast.
Marks: no marks were found.
Condition: very good with negligible wear commensurate with age. One half seed pearl has fallen out (an easy fix).
