Antique Victorian sterling silver and cobalt glass deskset. Made 1899, London England. By the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co., - William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman.
Measures approx 9 3/4 inches (24.5cm) long; weighable silver 579grams.
Rectangular with lobed, rounded sides. Stands on 4 paw feet. the gallery / railing is pierced and has openwork scrolls and flowers and a beaded upper edge. The front has a solid reserve with an engraved crest for Ainsworth, Bolton, Carpenter, Drummond, Eastfield, Falconer, Glenham and other families.
A pair of pierced scrolling round holders on either side contain deep cobalt blue cut glass inkwells. The solid round holder in the center supports a removable taperstick with snuffer on a chain and sturdy carrying ring for when it is detached.
Underneath the silver bottom is hallmarked with GOLDSMITHS COMPANY 112 REGENT STREET as well as WG over JL, date letter d, lion and leopard head. All other silver components are hallmarked accordingly with maker, date, sterling and London marks.
Good condition. I found no damage/loss of any sort.
