Round cufflinks mounted in 18k yellow gold. A true pair of greyhound dogs is depicted in profile, facing either towards or away from each other. 3-layered cameo. Beautiful detail to the carved apricot colored shell against a grey ground with white intermediary detail. The whiplash leashes or ribbons that are seen in the background place the carver squarely in the Art Nouveau period. The love of long, lean, elegant dogs is another feature typical of the era. The carver was a true craftsman - cutting away at the different layers of shell to reveal their colors and exploiting them to suit the subject perfectly.
The gold borders are adorned with 6 pairs of curving foliage in relief.

Perfect for the gentleman and dog lover.

Marks: The back of each stud is engraved DEPOSE and has the initials CM in an engraved folded ribbon. THe backs are also engraved Bte SGDG. No gold marks were found but gold was acid tested to ensure 18k gold purity.
Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. Looking carefully, we can see a minor dent in the gold border of one cufflink. Please see enlarged 'photos and do not hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Very comfortable hinged studs make these cufflinks quite easy to insert in shirtsleeves and easy to lock into place. While the mount of the cameos is in 18k gold, the backs of the studs are in gold-colored metal.
